Pathfinder Advocacy Center provides an Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Substance Abuse Program designed to provide in-depth treatment for individuals experiencing chronic problems with alcohol/drugs and other dependence. The goals of the program are to provide information about the physical, emotional, social, and legal consequences of alcohol consumption and/or drug use and prevent recidivism. Alcoholism or drug addiction is a serious progressive illness that unless treated and arrested, can lead to mental, physical, and emotional pain. The treatment components focus on a recovery program concerned with not just abstinence, but abstinence as a fulfilling, productive way of life. Individual treatment plans based on a face-to-face interviews, screening results and intake information are conducted to assess what specific issues need to be addressed. Individualized treatment plans will then be developed to address those specific treatment and life area needs pertinent to maintaining recovery, and a sober and healthy lifestyle. The Totem levels are designed to guide, encourage, and motivate clients to change their negative behaviors and decision-making and adapt more positive, productive, constructive, and acceptable behaviors that will allow them to move forward both within the context of the treatment program and their everyday lives. As participants begin to learn how to discipline themselves and learn what behaviors are expected of them, they will begin to realize that conducting themselves appropriately is rewarding. As participants embrace these new behaviors they begin to embody the attributes of the totems themselves. It is expected that as each participant goes through the program they will demonstrate the values and qualities of Leadership, Compassion, Insightfulness, Honesty, Community Building, and Respect embodied in the totems.
